September 4 & 5, 2015 Project: Whooping Crane

Internationally acclaimed Green Fools Theatre presents Project: Whooping Crane, an ecological story of friendship, dedication, struggle and survival. Using puppets, masks and music, the Green Fools tell the story of the Whooping Crane — a symbol for endangered species everywhere — and their relationship to us all.

Only found in North America, the Whooping Crane was once endangered to only 16 birds. Tireless experimental conservation efforts have brought the Whooping Crane back from the brink of extinction and have inspired the world. Project: Whooping Crane gently illuminates this dramatic global concern through a Canadian story that is accessible, emotional, uplifting and joyously entertaining.

“…simply a remarkable example of theatrical storytelling… The Green Fools remind us of the magic of theatre. This is one piece I would recommend to everyone I know.”
Jocelyn Grosse, FFWD Weekly

Created by Jennie Esdale, Eileen Sproule, Dean Bareham and Dave Clarke. This remount is performed by Dean Bareham and Jamie Tognizzini, directed by Eileen Sproule and Stage Managed by Erin Brett.

October 15- 25, 2015 The Floating Mouse

Green Fools Theatre presents our much anticipated new family puppet musical.

In 2013, our city was struck by a severe flood. So many members of our community were impacted. We lost our theatre.  We were humbled by the power of nature and felt small in its wake. As small as a mouse. Our latest show is inspired by the flood.

This is the story of a little mouse and a big mess.

Peep is afraid to leave her mouse house. Her brother Relish braves the dangers of the big world to bring her treats and treasures. When a flood separates the brother and sister and propels Peep out of her house and into the middle of a watery world, she must face her own harrowing adventure. Peep is a story of change and courage told by a single performer through puppetry and song.

This heart warming fable features larger than life size hand crafted puppets, stirring songs, adventure and bubbles. Suitable for all ages.

Created & directed by Jennie Esdale. Music and sound by David Rhymer. Performed by Jamie Konchak.

OCTOBER 15- 25, TUESDAY – SATURDAY 7PM, SATURDAY & SUNDAY 2PM. Bonus shows: Fridays 10:30AM.

@ The West Village Theatre. Tickets $12- $20. Pay what you can Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

YEAR ROUND Circus Camps, Stilt Walking & Workshops

Green Fools is a leader in the Social Circus movement. Social Circus uses circus arts as a medium to enrich the lives and personal development of marginalized youth who may face social or personal risk. Professional artists trained in social circus practices provide mentorship to youth in the areas of tight wire, trapeze, aerial silks, stilt walking, juggling, unicycle, clowning and acrobatics. Green Fools provides this program to Calgary and beyond.

Walking works of art, our stilt walkers grace festivals and events with otherworldly masks and beautiful costumes. Characters range from the hilarious to the most elegant. We have a stunning stilt walker for any event. Our performers are trained professionals and our hand crafted costumes and masks are emblematic of Green Fools spirit and work.

Green Fools provides workshops in Circus Skills, Mask making/ performance, Clown, and Puppetry to any group. Book a Green Fools workshop for your school, festival, community, or family.

New this year: Try the GREEN FOOLS EXPERIENCE Corporate team building adventure. Ever imagine your boss in a clown nose? Or your administrator on stilts? Green Fools will come to you with a band of Fools (or you can come to us at the West Village) and we will lead your team in a unique program of challenging, fun and hilarious physical theatre skills. Group games and individual challenges embolden the spirit, fuse interpersonal bonds, and unify the whole team.

Green Fools has spent over two decades creating physical theatre works exploring the arts of masks, puppetry, stilt walking and circus skills. Throughout our active practice, we have developed  our own techniques while engaging traditional methodology. Our productions have garnered Betty Mitchell and Elizabeth Sterling Haynes awards and have toured internationally. www.greenfools.com
